Our foundation cooperates with "Geest en Kracht" Ministries - which stands for "Spirit and Power" Ministries - in Purmerend, a small church organization with a world wide outreach. Pastor Bert Elferink and his co-pastor Mildred van der Linden travel all around the world to preach and teach the Gospel by Word and Deed. They travel from Colombia to Togo, and from India to Malawi and Mozambique. We feel especially attracted to their work in the latter two countries, and with the limited means we have we try to be of help.
It's almost ten years ago that "Geest en Kracht" started in those two countries in helping the extremely remote and backwarded areas. They have set up regional church centers for each of the two countries, and more than 80 churches are connected by now, in total encompassing more than 8.000 members. Please realize that not all the new converts are automatically church members, so the impact of their work is much larger than these figures show.
We consider their work especially positive, for the indegenous ministries in those countries refuse to work in the remote places, and rather prefer to stay in the more civilized capitals and other bigger cities.
The Gospel is preached in Word and Deed. The latter comprises not only churchbuilding, teaching material and pastors'support, but also teaching reading and writing for adults (illiteracy is extremely high, especially among women), helping in setting up horticultural projects, goats farms, supplying bicycles for pastors, teaching English and buying transportation for the country managers. Realize that all these projects are financed with a extremely limited budget, and according to the local standards.
Once a year a team travels to Malawi and Mozambique to train the pastors, to teach the church members and to preach to potential converts on the market places and in village campaigns. People are hungry for the Gospel. It happens that during a local evangelization campaign over 300 people make a decision for eternal life!
